In the middle of Route 104, Thomas and Tapu Koko took up a defensive position. Their objective was simple: intercept and drive back any Rocket forces moving towards Rustboro.

This particular mission was of personal importance to the Kalosian. If they managed to take Rustboro, then there was little stopping them from making another attempt on Verdanturf. If Kanto Rockets were involved with another siege on Verdanturf, then Thomas feared the brutality of such an attack. Especially if they were motivated to avenge the death of Silas.

Though Thomas still has his misgivings with the League, they were still the far better option, next to Rocket. Once they had Hoenn in their grasp, they wouldn't need to trick anyone into joining them anymore. Not when they could just take the other Regions by force, with the Avatars they accrued in their time in Hoenn. A world reduced to a dystopia ruled by iron-fisted criminals was one Thomas dreaded.

Besides, Thomas still needed to avenge Vanilla Kingsley. The bastard that attacked her, and tossed her in a Rocket detention camp was still out there. He hoped that he might run into him, but surely he could beat that information out of the next Rocket he'd encounter. He knew who he was looking for. Problem was actually finding the bastard.

Thomas and Tapu Koko spotted the silhouette of a figure approaching them. Tapu Koko, ready for battle, activated their Electric Surge, causing an Electric Terrain to overtake the battlefield.

An amused smirk tugged at the corners of his lips now, speaking the name with a tone dripping in irony. A hand reached to the row of Pokéball's on his belt, plucking one free. [break][break]

"Sorry to say this is where your campaign against Team Rocket ends." The orb in Rowan's hand expanded, cracking open at the center and bringing forth the Swampert contained within.[break][break]

Atlas roared, pounding it's chest with fervent ferocity at the prospect of battle. The Pokémon had suffered underneath his misgivings before, taking the blame for the murder of Noah Faber's Machamp when Rowan knew full well what would happen if he let them loose.[break][break]

"Rowan!?", Thomas greeted the other man in shock. "What the fuck are you doing here!?", Thomas asked him, clearly mortified with the sight before him.

Thomas heard the reports, that Rowan was supposed to be dead. But here he was, standing in his way. Did he really fake his death, in order to be with his evil siblings again!?

"Yeah, why'd you flip back!? I thought you were serious about redeeming yourself!", Thomas protested, clearly hurt by the fact that Rowan went back.

Tapu Koko floated forward. "Electrical attacks are useless against Swampert! Be careful!", he cautioned his partner, who gave him a nod in response.

Tapu Koko briefly retracted into their shell, before quickly popping out, and loosing a Dazzling Gleam across the field.

All that mattered to him that was he was with Gavin, Lulu, and Adrian once more even if the former two had yet to forgive him.[break][break]

In face of Tapu Koko, Rowan spat on the dirt, taking a measured step towards Thomas. "I misplaced my trust in a Legend, I won't make the same mistake again." A sharp whistle escaped from Rowan's lips, issuing an attack command as the Dazzling Gleam rippled across the battlefield.[break][break]

Rowan turned from the blinding light, but Swampert didn't. The sadistic Pokémon took the blast head on, seemingly as a challenge to itself before their throat ballooned with a viscous substance. [break][break]

MUD BOMB burst forth from the Pokémon's mouth, aiming the blast directly for Thomas instead of their Pokémon, hoping that one of their companions would be loyal enough to take the hit.

"What happened to your eye!? Who did this to you!?", Thomas asked Rowan.

Tapu Koko watched as the Mud Bomb sailed over them, and right towards Thomas. Before he could move to dodge, one of his Pokemon, his newly acquired Escavalier, barged out of his Pokeball, and took the attack.

"You okay?", Thomas asked the Escavalier, who grunted and nodded. "Good. Thanks for covering me.", Thomas told the armored insect.

Tapu Koko proceeded to Charge, tucking themselves into their shell, in order to shore up some power, and fortify their defenses.
